6 - Analysing Previous Music Videos

1 - I would give this music video 25/40 because it has an interesting story to it and has an interesting narrative. However some of the shots could have been set up better through the use of lighting and camera angles. The use of rule of thirds in some shots would have helped create more interesting composition and the use of less orange tones would create better consistency and be better to look at for the audience. Apart from the technical side of the piece, the themes and moods are clearly portrayed in the piece.

2 - I think this video deserves 32/40 because the concept is good and the use of interesting composition and stylistic elements draws the audience in. However the narrative gets a bit lost toward the end and trails into an area where the audience is confused.  I continuation of the beginning narrative would have been better for the piece.

3 -I would give this video a 28/40 because it has some interesting ideas and messages through the use of appropriate editing techniques and camera angles. Some issues with the piece would be the tone of the shots because some are to over exposed meaning the contrast between the flashback world and the present.

4 - I give this video 26/40 because it has an interesting concept and idea and has some interesting shots used. However some of the lighting is an issue due to over exposure which makes it worse for the audience to look at.

Over the course of this task I learnt what previous people had done for their music videos and how they went about constructing a concept around a song. I learnt what angles and editing worked well and how you need to use them to fit around your concept and song. For my music video I need to take notice what made their music video worse or better and take onboard the better elements and try to acknowledge when I'm using the bad ones.

5 - Branding

http://justclum.wix.com/branding

From this task I learnt about the importance of setting an image for the artist or band your in or the brand. Without listening to the music you need to portray something of yourself through elements such as a logo or clothing. When I make my music video I will be using someone else's song so I need to accurately portray the bands pre-existing image and this task has made me realise that I need to take onboard the artist's brand and reflect it in my music video.

4 - Digipak Adverts

From this task I learnt what it goes into a digipak advert and how they are similar and different to normal adverts. Also how the adverts reflect the image and genre of the band or artist and what elements can be used to make it look effective. I learnt all about colour schemes, camera angles and structure to an advert. So when I come to make my own I know what I need to think about when considering the image I'm trying to portray. A formal style would portray that the artist was sophisticated for example. I need to put myself in the place of the audience and how they would perceive the advert.

3 - Digipak Analysis

From this task I learnt what a digipak was and the business surrounding it. Also how they've fallen out of popularity over recent years as things are becoming more digital. Also what designs give off certain effects and how I need to pay attention to what image I'm portraying when making my digipak and poster. In addition, when I come to make my own there are a lot of different avenues I can go down in terms of design so I need to pick the right selection of images, fonts and the other elements that go into a digipak to portray the correct image.

2 - Website Analysis

From this task I learnt about what makes a good and bad music website. I looked at the typography, formatting and images because they're all really important. From this task I will take on board the branding elements they used to reflect the mood of the band and what typography, images and language used and take that into consideration on my own advertisements as the audience needs to be given the correct idea on what the video is like,

1 - History of Music Videos

Over the course of this task I learnt about the general history of music videos. This really helped me know how they have evolved and what people use as a source of inspiration. I can use some of the videos I looked at for inspiration for my video and use the techniques used in some of them to tell a story and give a message.
