Colour Grading

The colour grading is an essential part of my music video and plays a major part in setting what the video looks like. I didn't want to grade the footage which was in reality but instead grade the dream world to make it seem more like a dream. I used the Magic Bullet Looks plug-in for After Effects to grade the footage because it has a lot of different settings and has a number of preset grades which you can use.

1. First of all I split the video into different tracks so that I could grade each section individually

2. Next I applied the effect to each track and opened up the Magic Bullet Looks window

3. On the left of the window it says "Looks" which are presets already installed so I open that window and flick through the presets into one of them works with the footage. With this shot I used the preset "Coolish Alternative" which has a lot of blue tones, all the layers of the grade are shown below and I can change them if needed so for this shot I lowered the blue tones slightly

4. Once I've graded each section I render the entire piece and then bring it back into the original Vegas file so that I can replace the ungraded footage with the graded. Then I do one final render of the whole project

Here are some examples of the footage before and after being graded
