Draft of Poster

This is the first draft of my poster and I'm happy with it apart from the image. I think I've over done it slightly and it needs to be simpler and have less harsh tones. I will re-edit the image and then it should be finished.

Second Full Cut

This is the second cut of my music video and it might be the final cut. All the cuts and effects that didn't work have been altered and fixed. I've also added color correction to all the shots but not grading due to the fact it takes to much rendering time to do all the shots. I've only done simple color correction on the shots and just used brightness and contrast. Most of the time I've lowered the brightness and upped the contrast. I also tried to render the video in 1080p rather than 720p but I discovered that there was differentiation in frame rate from shoot to shoot and I used a different camera for different locations. The only problem in not rendering in 720p is that the quality is different and when I render in 1080p I get lots of pix elation and areas of black.

The final changes that I need to do will probably be grading I've decided because I can really bring out the feel of the world that the characters in. I will be using Magic Bullet Looks for this which provides a lot of custom presets for grading so I'll browse those until I find the one I want for each scene.

First Full Cut

This the first cut for my music video. Initially there is a lot of obvious issues with different cuts and some of the effects didn't work. However in the second cut I will fix these issues and begin to add color correction to the piece. This cut was primarily to identify what the video looked like when all the pieces were put together. The video is alot less ambitious than it was originally intended but the change in song allowed me to make the video simpler and allow me to spend more time editing.

Some of the issues in question would be the cut between the door being opened and him lying on the grass because the increased brightness effect jumps back to normal when its supposed to remain bright. Another would be in the credits because the text gets lost inside the black bars below so that needs to be lifted upwards. Also when my actor walks toward the subway you see him begin to start walking so I need to cut that later so you just see him walking when the shot appears.

Editing Images

Here I am adjusting the brightness and contrast on this shot to improve its look and make it more professional looking. It also draws the image out and makes it less bland. I'm also adding black bars to the upper and lower portions because it gives it a more cinematic look and makes it more like a short film rather than a music video. It still needs to identify as a music video so editing in the lip syncing portions will make that evident.

I am rendering this scene here to see what the video actually looks like as the editing software doesn't provides a less accurate representation of the final cut.

I edited each scene individually to the music and where they overlap I played around until the narrative appeared chronological and continuous. Sony Vegas allows me to have as many visual and auditory tracks as I want which allows me to layer things a lot easier and I can put separate scenes on separate tracks so that I can edit them individually. Dragging either top corner of a clip introduces a fade which you can drag to make it longer or shorter which is an efficient and quick way of applying fades. Above the preview window there is an option to select what you view the quality of the footage in in the preview window. If it was always high quality editing would be a slow process but you can reduce to quarter quality so everything runs smoothly and as your only testing cuts and not quality it doesn't matter in the editing process. Naming tracks is also a helpful factor in the editing process, when you have a lot of tracks you could lose track of which ones which so naming them makes it quicker when wanting to identify.

I wanted to apply a colour grade to the video as to make the dream state be in direct contrast to the real world. I will most likely make it seem like a fantasy by making it glow and perhaps apply a vignette to blacken the corners and make it look like a dream. Ultimately I'll play around until I find the look I want but I'll place below here the process in which I colour graded and show what the clip looked before and after the grading.
