Here I am adjusting the brightness and contrast on this shot to improve its look and make it more professional looking. It also draws the image out and makes it less bland. I'm also adding black bars to the upper and lower portions because it gives it a more cinematic look and makes it more like a short film rather than a music video. It still needs to identify as a music video so editing in the lip syncing portions will make that evident.
I am rendering this scene here to see what the video actually looks like as the editing software doesn't provides a less accurate representation of the final cut.
I edited each scene individually to the music and where they overlap I played around until the narrative appeared chronological and continuous. Sony Vegas allows me to have as many visual and auditory tracks as I want which allows me to layer things a lot easier and I can put separate scenes on separate tracks so that I can edit them individually. Dragging either top corner of a clip introduces a fade which you can drag to make it longer or shorter which is an efficient and quick way of applying fades. Above the preview window there is an option to select what you view the quality of the footage in in the preview window. If it was always high quality editing would be a slow process but you can reduce to quarter quality so everything runs smoothly and as your only testing cuts and not quality it doesn't matter in the editing process. Naming tracks is also a helpful factor in the editing process, when you have a lot of tracks you could lose track of which ones which so naming them makes it quicker when wanting to identify.
I wanted to apply a colour grade to the video as to make the dream state be in direct contrast to the real world. I will most likely make it seem like a fantasy by making it glow and perhaps apply a vignette to blacken the corners and make it look like a dream. Ultimately I'll play around until I find the look I want but I'll place below here the process in which I colour graded and show what the clip looked before and after the grading.
