12 & 13 - Barry Island & Special Effects
This the video we made at Barry Island which incorporates skills and special effects necessary for our music video. Especially in the planning of this video we used a lot of the skills we need for our music video when it came to storyboarding and scripting. We learnt how to structure a video around its central theme which in this case was the news but then we need to apply the structuring to our music video. As far as special effects goes we prodominantly used green screen which is evident throughout the video. We learned what backgrounds were appropriate and how to apply them from the simple studio to the final piece. The equipment we used didn't actually involve the use of a green sheet or screen, there was actually a green LED light on the front of the lens which changed the colour of the special material behind the actor to green, this allows you to use other colours of screen like blue. The actor would be in the studio and then in another room they would operate the backgrounds and record the footage which then can be taken to the editing suite. Another task we did was recreate shot for shot a scene from a short film which taught us to storyboard and how to string shots together to make a piece. Which is important when it comes to planning our video.
Overall from this trip I learnt about the importance of storyboarding and how it can help prepare you for production. Also how green screen software works and how it can be applied to my video to create different settings and themes.
